You'll Never Walk Alone
(1945) Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein II

When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark
At the end of the storm
Is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark

Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Tho' your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on, walk on
With hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone

Aye Aye Sir! Reporting for Duty!

Been a Red since 1987. John Barnes was my favorite player with Robbie being a close second. Have you guys watched each of his first 100 LFC goals on Youtube?

I cried tears of joy watching Istanbul 05. :D Wondered if any of you guys got overwhelmed by emotions on that night too.

lifelong supporter of liverpool since 1977. will never support another club.

favourite players:

10. steve mcmahon (for his no nonsense playing style and his "i'm going to eat u for breakfast" demeanour)
9. ian rush (incomparable killer instinct who has a knack for scoring against everton!!!)
8. jan molby (my inspiration!!! elegant player although carrying so much weight)
7. alan hansen (never seen a better defender, comparable to franco baresi)
6. jaime redknapp (my ex watched liverpool games with me just so to catch glimpses of him:D )
5. steve nicol (original marauding roberto carlos with lungs of steel, his size 14 boots packs one of the most feared shots in the old division 1)
4. michael owen (would have loved him to partner peter crouch, should be a blast)
3. PETER crouch (my MU frens wee laughing at me when he wasnt scoring last season. they couldnt see his contribution, but what do they know about football when they only started supporting MU in the 90s?)
2. steven gerrard (part man, part machine. more machine than man. pride of liverpool, of everyone who supports liverpool, of football. he would walk straight into the world first XI. dont understand why frank lampard is preferred over him for england)
1. ROBBIE FOWLER - GOD, enuff said. best goal: when he left the then 1st choice right-back and even centreback, dear old gary neville, like a prostitute on the grass with the slightest of bumps, and proceeded to curl the ball over the seemingly unbeatable peter schemichel (wrong spelling) from the left side of the penalty box with his right foot, his weaker foot.

when is the gathering? newbie can join? by the way, anyone knows where to get the DVD for the champions league triumph in 2005?

I do apologise for quoting your whole post but I needed it to show a point. Notice how all ten of your best players are white men? It's something that we forget nowadays. Football then was more racist than currently.

I was reading a book about Liverpool ten years back. When John Barnes (my fav player) first got into the team, the racists will throw a banana onto the field just as he is about to take a corner. In spite of all this racism and the quality of the Liverpool team then, John Barnes won Player of the Season TWICE! Granted Steven G won it thrice and hopefully more times! :D

I dun think that's fowler's best goal right? :p His hat-trick against Seaman(sounds like Semen) in less than 5 mins is still the fastest hat trick record in the EPL. Unlikely to be topped in my opinion.

I like Ian Rush too but he's a finisher like Horse-face (Van Nisterol). I like creative players more than finishers.

Try www.liverpoolfc.tv. The online shop should have the DVD.

Robbie Fowler's First 100 goals for Liverpool. Each and every one of them! His best goal ever scored, in my opinion, was the one against Brann. Brilliant! If he can rediscover even 10% of his form in his prime, we will have a hell of a season already!

bro xgenre, sharp eyes u have. didnt realise that myself. but coming to think of it, didnt really like john barnes and pls dont expect me to put in michael thomas just to be politically correct. pls dont mention paul ince cos any player who has ever donned a man u jersey does not deserve to be on my list.:p

that goal by robbie fowler was my personal favourite cos it came at a time when the papers were raving about gary neville's performance for england and the new man u supporters (the scum of the earth) were really unbearable. i wonder how many actually jumped ship to support chelski these past 2 seasons.

fowler's hat-trick was achieved in 4min 37sec, i think. ian rush was worth every penny to liverpool for the fact that i cant remember him not scoring when playing against the toffees.

i know liverpool website has the DVD but very expensive leh. i was told shops in sg were selling for $40 but i cant seem to find anywhere. ask those kids manning the DVD shops also useless. 1 at jurong point actually told me: "liverpool dont have, got man u one. u want?" anyone has a second-hand one to let go? i m willing to pay the original price for it.:D

hahaha bro libertyman, i know yr grief. my youngest bro's birthday 2 years back when we went to MIA (made in anfield at MS) to celebrate. my whole family r liverpool fans, by the way. his friends and i chipped in to buy him an authentic man u jersey with number 2 neville printed at peninsula. he was damn sad siah!!! got drunk that nite and end up burning the bloody jersey at the roadside. got rounded up by the police but was let off with a stern warning. copied our ICs as well.

next day, got him a michael owen jersey but after a while, he transferred to real madrid...:D

bro owen10, thanks for yr compliments. the most knowledgeable person i have come across about the history of liverpool is ironically, an everton fan!!! i have the utmost respect for him. always a pleasure watching or talking about football with him.

but i guess i became a fan in the 70s as the TV was virtually showing only liverpool games on sundays. they were winning virtually everything then, so cannot really blame those new football fans who r supporting chelski or manure now. but what i cant stand are those who jump from 1 team to the other. i know of this guy who was a liverpool fan in the 80s, manure fan in the 90s and recently wears a new adidas chelski jersey and calls it my team. he had the cheek to tell me that he switched teams cos he couldnt stand losing. to me at least, i think he is a biggest loser i would ever meet.

i wish that owen comes through his injury a better player. i think he will benefit a lot from crouch in the england setup. always felt playing rooney is equivalent to playing with 10 men, with his kind of temperament, if any. attitude and temperament is the difference between a good player n a great player.

MIA at UE Square not expensive lah. nice ambience and the crowd there r generally well behaved. been there a few times n i do see supporters of other clubs there as well. should be quite safe:D , like the time when i was supporting liverpool at devils when they were playing each other. cheers.

thks for thinking of me bro. :D

i was really disappointed when owen left d club. i tot Pool had a gd chance to re-sign him when he returned fr Real but was dam mad when newcastle snapped him instead! haha .. so now its retribution lah .. owen became a white elephant on NC's expensive payroll!

well i guess for now, no way for owen to return bk to Pool liao. dun thk Rafa n d Pool board will want to sign an injury proned player. hope at least my presence in SB will let bros feel a bit of Owen's presence lor hehehehe.

bro owen10, got to know my evertonian friend through a business contact. dunno if he joins this forum. wanna teach me how to ask him???;) if we have a samster liverpool gathering, i think i will bring him along.

owen is injury prone bcos of the way he plays. his speed, while it is his strength, is also his bane. too much stress on his legs. another speed demon with his fair share of leg injuries is ryan giggs, if u remember when he missed a lot of games when he was younger. u will expect owen to lose quite a bit of his speed when he comes back from his injury. will have to see how he copes with his loss of pace to continue to be a major contribution like always.

dont know whether MIA is the official Liverpool fan club but saw bro enek's post that it has already closed down. will go check it out tonite cos going down to MS tonite. my bro did some renovations for them a couple of months back and i m not too sure if he has collected the payment yet!

I am a LFC fans since the day I know about soccer.

Currently, LFC official website (www.liverpoolfc.tv/news) is counting down on the 100 Players that Shook The Kop. It is down to the Top 20!

Lets see who is the Favorite of the BROs here to be No. 1. Could it be Keegan? Gerrard? Fowler? Rush? Dalgish?

Cheers!

P/S:

So far, the only surprise to me is Luis Garcia.

Should be Kenny. He's King Kenny, good player, good manager. I hope John Barnes is in the top 10 though. If anything, this '100 players who shook the kop' poll shows Liverpool fans are a forgiving lot. Steve McManaman is voted 22 I think. Not bad for a guy who left Liverpool deliberately for free. Owen tried Bosman too.

Actually, in the year we won the Champions League(2005), Luis Garcis was voted the best right-sided player in the Champions League 2004/05 by the soccer players. He's irritating as he loses simple balls but he's also capable of producing match winning moments. Think of him scoring the amazing goal against Juve (Buffon some more), against Chelsea (2005 Champions League Semi, 2006 FA Cup Semi). He recently made the second goal possible for Peter Crouch against West Ham.

Actually, from what i gathered, there was a original pub in South Bridge Road for liverpool supporters. It was split into two later, MIA in UE Square and PennyBlack in Boat Quay. I asked my friend why he didn't go to MIA. He mentioned MIA got a lot of bookies by the side, waiting to accept bets as the live telecast of the matches is on. He didn't like that.

Pennyblack, on the other hand, doesn't have this bookie issue. I've been to Pennyblack for some matches and it's great to watch a match with fellow YNWA people. Got some hardcore chiobus with scarves and they lead songs too leh! :D But they come with another liverpool accessory, a just as hardcore bf who's a Pool fan too. :(

How come Pool's matches are shown at 7.40pm arh? So early.

hiaz, was at MIA quite a number of times but was never approached by any bookies or told about them. guess again, that i m not in the "in the know" group.

but agree with bro xgenre that it has to be king kenny. his contributions as a player, as a manager and he has conducted himself to be one of a gentleman, refusing to criticise his beloved club when he resigned from the manager's post due to politicking. liverpool went downhill from there. i hope that alan hansen is one of the top 20, if he is not already selected. gerrard will be there, as with fowler, i guess.

for me, 2 things brought about the drought in the 90s. no, not manure, but the bosman ruling bringing about EU ruling that players can move freely and not being considered as foreigners. liverpool was then snapping up english players and remember that team that consisted of david james, neil ruddock, jaime redknapp, steve macmanaman, robbie fowler and just bought stan collymore (not very smart but he's english). all these came to nought cos the rules changed for the european competitions, otherwise, it would be very difficult to beat them. alas, lppl.

the other one is more difficult to swallow, it is graeme souness when he was manager of liverpool. i will never forgive him for bringing liverpool to the pits. none of his signings ever performed, and when u thought people would have learnt, he goes to blackburn and newcastle and caused the same results, chaos. even mediocre and inexperienced managers, mark hughes and glenn roeder, can do better than what he has put up.

My personal favourite is Rush followed by Kenny..... for wats he's worth.... he is a true blue striker...... The way he finishes will put almost all recent strikers(cos they try to do too much fancy stuff) to shame..... they tend to forget strikers are paid to score not to have fancy footwork, try to walk the ball into the goal.......the one tat comes close to him is Fowler...... but he's lost the touch when he went to Leeds and Man C.....

For me who is No.1 on 100 PWSTK is not important as they are all Pool's pride..... and they all deserve to be No.1 in my eyes......... YNWA

Even if Murphy stayed,he would find it extremely hard to even get a few minutes play under Rafa. Anyway I will always remember all the deadly penalties he took (100% success rate?) & all his crucial goals against MU.

lifelong supporter of liverpool since 1977. will never support another club.

favourite players:

10. steve mcmahon (for his no nonsense playing style and his "i'm going to eat u for breakfast" demeanour)
9. ian rush (incomparable killer instinct who has a knack for scoring against everton!!!)
8. jan molby (my inspiration!!! elegant player although carrying so much weight)
7. alan hansen (never seen a better defender, comparable to franco baresi)
6. jaime redknapp (my ex watched liverpool games with me just so to catch glimpses of him:D )
5. steve nicol (original marauding roberto carlos with lungs of steel, his size 14 boots packs one of the most feared shots in the old division 1)
4. michael owen (would have loved him to partner peter crouch, should be a blast)

Bro AXL,

There's a shop on the 2nd floor in Peninsula Shopping Centre selling the original DVD. Sorry but i dun have the name of the shop. but it's very near the escalator

Although I've been a Liverpool supporter for a long time and would love to see Liverpool win every match. Looking back at last season Liverpool seemed to struggle at away matches. This season they have a few new players and again lack good strikers. I would say the match with Everton tomorrow could most likely end in a draw.

kekeke .. maybe i shd have changed my heading like 'Pool players who should not have left ... '

in modern football tis days we see many good players leave d club for d sake of $$$ for loyalty. BUT good to see we still see exemplary players like Gerrard who had pledged his loyalty to Pool despite d lure of big $$$ fr big clubs. Ryan Giggs is anthr excellent example. He could have joined any of d big clubs when he was younger but he chose to stay.

I'm quite an admirer of Danny Murphy. I have always felt whenever he came into d field he always give his all. imho he was 1 of d more consistent players. will remembr his curling free kicks n yes, 1 of d better penalty takers. :)

adidas shop gives 20% discount for payment by some credit cards. so price should be roughly the same. cant compare adidas with reebok. resisted buying the reebok one. 3 years back, liverpool's kit deal with reebok was coming to an end, adidas offered a very good deal but reebok broke the bank for continuation of the kit deal. alas, adidas bought over reebok and hence has the decision for adidas to kit liverpool. adidas quality much better.

read d article in ST today, Rafa was rightly criticised for:

1) starting Carragher who was not fully fit.

2) starting a lethargic Crouch n an ineffective Fowler when Bellamy n Kuyt were avail

Carra was was responsible for d goals conceded. He's normally reliable n solid ... mayb he had still not fully recovered.

i was surprised to see Fowler n Crouch in d line-up. Maybe Rafa tot Fowler had played agt Ever b4 n will do well. N that Crouch's gd England form will continue. But alas his plans backfired.

Would Pool had done better if Kuyt n Bellamy had started???

N perhaps a fit Agger takin over Carragher???

Aurelio does not seem to gel into d team yet. I thk if there's player shortage Pool could even have sacrificed n dropped Gerrard deeper into defence, mayb Pennant or Gonzalez gracing d flanks.

Wat do our Reds bros here think???

adidas shop gives 20% discount for payment by some credit cards. so price should be roughly the same. cant compare adidas with reebok. resisted buying the reebok one. 3 years back, liverpool's kit deal with reebok was coming to an end, adidas offered a very good deal but reebok broke the bank for continuation of the kit deal. alas, adidas bought over reebok and hence has the decision for adidas to kit liverpool. adidas quality much better.

in my honest opinion and analysis of pool's game, they should put crouch wif kuyt or bellamy.. or bellamy and kuyt.

1st option is crouchie is the target man for crosses coming in so bellamy or kuyt and get the half chances. coz they are better finishers. Bellamy is also able to supply nice balls for crouchie to score close range. though crouch is lanky, his tall frame does put off defenders.

Bellamy and kuyt are to a speedy attack should rafa need it as they are able to exchange quick one-two passes and they are both capable of hitting one or two in themselves. wif pennant and gonzalez on wings that should be good.
explosive team ( if you play football manager if will know what i mean)

next, alonso needs to be dropped, he is ineffective for both club and country. he is spain's frank LAM-PA. let him fight for his place. put sissoko in centre to DMC and gerrard to AMC. aurelio can only play left wing back or winger coz his defensive capabilites are not as good as riise. reina hmm..needs confidence and consistency, the best way is......drop him, put dudek and let reina fight for his worth in the team. rafa has too many players now and im worried he will be mr thinkering no.2. defence wise agger and hyypia. but hyypia old so got problem. I wouldnt be surprised if paletta will be called in first team action soon. let the argentinian boy have some light to shine.. he may be pool's next anthony vanden borre or vincent kompany both are young centre back prodigy =)

Scousers reporting in for duty sire!

Hopefully losing to Everton would somewhat motivate us from the defeat to something more constructive. We need to eradicate the defensive errors and look to use the ball more intelligently.

Against PSV, I'd like to see Bellamy, Kuyt and Gonzalez in the starting lineup.

bro shit8,

kinda of beg to differ to play gerrard in an advance role. on hindsight, i guess pool were expecting everton to roll over and play dead. they should have played with 2 defensive midfielders sitting in front of the defence then cos everton was running riot there. my choice would be sissoko and gerrard. yes, gerrard. in case we forget, gerrard is probably the the top 3 tacklers in liverpool. win the midfield battle is of paramount importance, especially for last weekend's game.

crouch and fowler would still have gotten my nod as they have the experience to handle a derby game. bellamy would also be a very close 3rd option but i m biased towards God lah, with his kind of scoring record against the toffees. if u throw dirk kuyt into a derby game, he might have gotten a culture shock. i think he played his first minutes against west ham, who are not known for rough house tactics. i think benitez did right by not exposing him to the derby too much yet. ;)

reina is having a confidence crisis right now... hmm... it BLOODY happens to every single goalie liverpool has signed!!! i think if buffon plays for liverpool, he will also develop a confidence crisis!!! what is happening man? carrager shouldnt play, but then who should. liverpool r buying young defenders, so the immediate problem of reliable cover will not be solved for the time being.

everything said, with all due respect, david moyes is doing a good job. he is also very good at getting the right players for his team. only 3 games into the new season, so liverpool shouldnt be too worried. like real, champions league game next and then chelsea i think. that's the crucial one. that's the one they need to go and get a result.

to me, fowler will always be GOD. he might not be the force we have seen him in his first stint at liverpool but u should remember what he said when he was signed by rafa benitez. he was willing to go back even no salary was being paid to him and when he was signed, he felt like everyday is christmas. when i read those comments, i had goose pimples. yes, fowler is probably the richest guy in the premiership due to his astute investments, but that attitude, to me, is priceless.

benitez always says fowler is a good influence on the young team, which translates to the fact that fowler, being a living legend at liverpool, is signed more to help the team mature. he brings so much more this time round.

alas, when i went to peninsula to get the number and name printed, CO didnt allow me to put GOD cos not respectful to her religion.:p

"GOD" scoring rate did not went down even he was in Leeds or Man City.

His tally is just affected by injuries that prevent him from playing.

Rafa has declared that he is not going to use "GOD" as the Out-and-Out striker, so do not expect his scoring tally to go up too.

I think he can be used to be a "Role Model" for many players especially those who put self-interest infront of Club.

my definition of being a real liverpool fan: go with yr colleagues to watch the game. life, i feel, has up and has downs. then u can feel alive. yr coleagues lifelong chelski fans meh? bet they were liverpool, then manure, then arsenal, then chelski fans. with the way portsmouth are playing, soon they will be pompey fans.

zenden should be starting 1st 11, either central or left. his level has gone up and up since his boro time. can shoot, win balls, destroy, send thru passes... wonderful to watch.

xabi alonso is getting quite reckless with his tackles, he's a red card nominee in every game now.

haiz..miss the chance of watching the match at the bridge..oni manage to catch a glimpse of the last 10mins...but a small consolation for me was the result at Old Trafford....me is ABM (After a long 13 years of suffering since 1993) :D

same here about the ABM. thats why i dont really go all out to insult chelski. it is very apparent that the number of manure fans in sg really dropped a lot. just go to town and u will definitely see their jerseys walking around, especially after they win. nowadays, damn difficult to see hor.

bro, at least yr CO is paying for her own kit. my CO, haiz, still telling me she likes blue. need to talk to someone to market a new football visa card exclusively for men only, WOMEN JUST DONT GET IT!!! :D probably except for that new paper soccer babe, tracy or something. u guys think her comments are staged or is she really that good?

definition of a good weekend

average weekend - liverpool draw, manure draw

good weekend - liverpool win, manure draw

very good weekend - liverpool win, manure lost

orgasmic fucking good weekend - liverpool beat manure.

lousy weekend - liverpool draw/lost, manure win.

"stay away from me" weekend - liverpool lost to manure.

nothing to do with whether i had a good/fantastic bonk or not...

as the saying goes..good player does not imply that he will become a good manager...look at all the top managers and coaches in the world..most of them r either not a former player or lesser known players in the scene...i started wif Pool during the transition from Dalgish to Souness... Dalgish was supposed to be a better manager as compare to Souness..at least he won something as a manger for Pool and BB....

yes..indeed wat Pool needs is a natural winger to pump in the crosses for the forwards...so far Joaquim seems to fit the role...now by playing Gerrard on the left is wasting his ability to pump in long defence splitting pass from the middle... if pool able to penetrate from the middle and on both flanks...i guess the strikers will start to deliver more..now Pool has another worries..which is the defence..i can see Carragher not performing as well as last few seasons..Reina is no longer a safe hands..and the 2 reserve keepers are on loan...the once invincible defence is not as good as b4...:(

respect from me as u started with supporting liverpool then when everyone else would be clamouring to bathe in the glory of manure then. dalglish era to me, was untouchable. he was the perfect gentleman. until now, he refused to say a bad word about liverpool. souness on the other hand, was (and is still) the bane of football, not limited to liverpool. he can singlehandedly brought a great club like newcastle to the pits.

when i first heard joaquin was available, i thought benitez would go for him but nothing happened. haiz... and trust me when i say this, the real backbone of the team is not steven gerrard. he is only the attacking impetus for liverpool. the real person benitez is trying to build a defence around is the person hailed (and most likely succeed) as the new patrick vieira, momo sissoko. that's why gerrard most likely dont get to play in the middle. if sissoko is not injured, confirmed he will play. think benitez need to adjust his formation to play only 1 striker. it will be the classic real madrid formation 4-2-3-1.:D mouth-watering man...

reina and carragher r just going thru a bad patch, unfortunately together, but they will get over it. also give agger some time and i think we have a potential alan hansen in the making. but i really would love to see the chris kirkland back in liverpool. always felt that he would be a better choice to keep reina on his toes than dudek.

Agger is still young..hopefully he is able to pump in some goal from his center back position..especially after the wonder goal he had score against the hammers.... as for kirkland..my worry is his injury..but Pool has 2 potential future england keeper in kirkland and carson..but 2 good players in the same position is a headache for the manager...

i beg to differ for sissoko. i think he has the potential to be better than vieira, at least i certainly hope so. and i feel he has a better temperament than vieira. at least he dont go around whining about decisions against him or the monkey chants he gets from opposing fans. i dont expect agger to chip in the goals but it appears to me that he is developing a good passing range and ball interception techniques. hope he turns out well.

that is very sad... i feel sad for those people who said liverpool (or regardless of which club) fans at hillsborough deserved to die. r u sure they r mother fuckers? they still got mothers to fuck or not? with their kind of behaviour, i think their mothers probably died on the spot or just throw them into the sewer and forgot that they gave birth to such crap. that would adequately describe the kind of scum they r, living in the sewers and all. poor cockroaches...

Its really embaressing for the Newcastle keeper, Harper, to concede a goal like that. He has been waiting for his opportunity to play and got his chance when Givens is injured but I think he had have blown his chance of playing regularly with a blunder like that.

On a fairer note, other well known keeper had also make blunders like that. In the mid 90's in a European Cup Winners Cup Final between Arsenal and a Spainish club, a former Spurs player playing for the spainish team, scored from the half way line. The Arsenal Keeper that night was David Seaman an England International!

Another one was David Beckham's goal from the half way line against Wimbledon in 1995.

souness is the roots of Liverpool downfall during the early 90s... i think Evans did much better than him...but i always remember he's the man who plot saints 6-2 victory over MU...:D other than tat ..he does not contribute much in his managerial CV....

let's hope tat sisoko can develop into another viera...anyway viera is past his prime..as he got sent off in the recent serie A match..i was worried..when he expressed interest to sign for MU during the summer..but luckily Inter snap him up b4 MU can approach him.... Agger is still developing...Benitez is giving him more 1st team appearance this season..hopefully he can be as good as Hyppia..which i guess is one of the best buy made by Liverpool in recent history....

think it was a 6-3 victory rather than a 6-2 victory but i could be wrong...:D was also very worried that vieira was courted by manure. agger would take some time to develop, wont be so soon for him to be the complete package.

kirkland has been the future of liverpool for too long already. then reina came in and reina is also very young. think his career for liverpool is kinda over, unless something spectacular happens. kirkland, on the other hand, can concentrate on being the future of england though. but losing kirkland will be liverpool's loss, through and through...

interesting game against newcastle eh? liverpool played badly, especially the strikers and yet they won 2-0 with 2 moments of inspiration from xabi alonso. and agger showed his inexperience but luckily, he was not punished.;)

with all due respect, seaman didnt make a mistake against former spurs player, nayim, during the cup winners cup final. the goal was a speculative freak shot in injury time. dont think nayim would have been able to reproduce that shot in a thousand tries, as in the ronaldinho goal. think any team in the premiership would welcome a david seaman into their team anytime. hey bro, come to think of it, u r an arsenal fan leh...;)

think it was a 6-3 victory rather than a 6-2 victory but i could be wrong... was also very worried that vieira was courted by manure. agger would take some time to develop, wont be so soon for him to be the complete package.

kirkland has been the future of liverpool for too long already. then reina came in and reina is also very young. think his career for liverpool is kinda over, unless something spectacular happens. kirkland, on the other hand, can concentrate on being the future of england though. but losing kirkland will be liverpool's loss, through and through...

interesting game against newcastle eh? liverpool played badly, especially the strikers and yet they won 2-0 with 2 moments of inspiration from xabi alonso. and agger showed his inexperience but luckily, he was not punished.

Be it... 6-2 or 6-3..it was one of his main highlight of his managerial CV..other than tat..nothing much worth mentioning...hahahhahaha

hopefully Kirkland will do well during his loan move at Wigan..then mayb Benitez will seriously consider giving him the No.1 jersey at Anfield....cos he still got plenty of years ahead ..as GK usually play till late 30s or early 40s...

tonite ..will be playing aganst spurs...and the 2nd of the 3 consecutive home match .....read from the paper tat Benitez is tinkering again..wif Crouch/ Fowler partnership....tink he should field Kyut..as he just score in mid week and his confidence level is high...dun understand y he wanna break the same partnership...or Crouch/ Fowler partnership will trouble Spurs defence more as compares to Kyut/ Bellamy partnership... anyway, i hope Fowler can pop in some goals tonite....:D

well, southampton got manure at a low then. kirkland actually always does well whenever he plays, just that he gets injured too easily. tonite's game, i think crouch and bellamy should start. in fact, if bellamy can drop his prima donna behaviour, he should play on the right flank, gerrard on the left and crouch and kuyt as strikers. spurs dont really defend well in set pieces and crouch will give our dear king a host of problems as he is not fully fit yet.:D but come to think of it, think mido will give our liverpool defence some headache tonite as well.:( fowler, my god, is just not up to mark to compete for a starting place.

tonite is a crucial must win match for liverpool to keep pace with the leaders and hope that the other 2 clubs drop points tonite. the mediocre performances are over and should be forgotten. liverpool didnt play well against newcastle but won. luck had played a big part in it, but all good teams need luck. now is the time to start raising the performance bar so that the good luck will continue to bless the team. now is a good time for liverpool to start a winning streak now, so as to gain confidence for the away games to come.

liverpool's chance of winning the premiership will rest on this season and the next and if they cant do it, self doubt will creep in. the rotation system has shown that liverpool has able deputies in almost every position and it is now or never. rafa benitez needs his team to show that they have the killer instinct to kill teams off. although tonite's opponents, spurs, are a force to be reckoned with for the past few seasons, they are at a low now and there is no better time to end their challenge for a top 4 spot early in the season.

the liverpool strikers need to deliver big tonite so as to give themselves the confidence to go on a winning run. there is still work to be done for the strikers to understand how the system is to be played. the new system, which place a lot of emphasis on wing play should suit the main players very well, especially crouch, kuyt and gerrard.

the manager has shown that he is trying to get the best out of his players and has devised a system (old fashioned but effective) which is near perfection on paper. now is the time for the players to stand up and be counted.

all the best to gerrard and co...;) you'll never walk alone, for life.

Nice effort bro.
To seriously challenge the league leader,we have to win many away matches,to be able to bully the smaller clubs & get some points from the
other teams of Big Four. Portsmouth may just like Wigan of last season,
fading away after beaten by a decent team.

Agger is still developing...Benitez is giving him more 1st team appearance this season..hopefully he can be as good as Hyppia..which i guess is one of the best buy made by Liverpool in recent history....

Agger is playing more regularly is because he is one of the better defenders.
He's very steady, calm under pressure, quick thinking, and very fit.
Only problem now is he still has to absorb and be familiar with the tactical play of Liverpool. Give him some time to develop further and he will definitely be one of the best defenders in Liverpool's history.

Btw I'm enjoying my time here at Liverpool too, especially after scoring those goals!:D

Liverpool v Galatasaray

My team to start the game::D

..............Reina

Finnan... Carragher... Agger... Riise

Gerrard... Sissoko... Garcia,... Gonzalez

............ Kuyt ..... .. Crouch

However due to the fact that Rafa loves heavily used rotation system, I doubt he will use this lineup.
I fully expect Rafa to continue his rotation policy. With having such a hard fixture away to Bolton at the weekend, I'm sure he will rotate a bit in this game.

One thing I would like to see us do less is ambitious long balls, many times it ends up no where. Where last season all the slick passing we had?

One of the reason Garcia should be the first 11 is that when he came on on Saturday, he looked very clever. I think he is more suited to the Champions League and for the past 2 Champions League campaign he has been very valuable asset to us.

Lastly please bring on Crouch, he's looking to score.

Having said that, I think Kuyt is the only striker look good though.

yup, even kuyt was taking quite a number of chances before he started scoring the past 2 games. the first goal for liverpool against tottenham had bellamy written all over but where did he hit from 3 yards out? the post!!! luckily mark gonzalez did a good job by putting the rebound in, which i felt was not an easy angle.

think the guys r going through a "suay" (rear bird become chicken) period whereby goals are hard to come by. if u realise, always happens to liverpool at some point every bloody season!!! how many times have we seen them hit the inside of the posts and yet still bounce out away from danger??? not to talk about the goalkeeper crisis which they have to deal with, again every bloody season!!! i think even if liverpool buys buffon, he will also suffer a confidence crisis. (think i said this before, sorry)

i think if liverpool just try to ensure that the strikers had been take turns to go off-form than to all go off-form together. liverpool strikers always like to go off-form together one leh. worse still, the whole bloody team likes to go off-form together!!! eradicate that and liverpool will be premiership champs.:D

i think so too. we should play 4-2-3-1. alonso and sissoko sitting in front of the defence in an orthodox defensive midfield position. 3 attacking midfield in gerrard, bellamy and garcia to take advantage of crouch's knockdowns. these 3 guys r special cos they have vision, can play on either wings, loves coming from deep and all are damn difficult to mark. how, can send email to rafa and tell him to change to this formation??:p

Formation wise, not bad.
But where is in-form Kuyt?

bro breastlover, first of all, thanks for the goal clips.

kuyt can play one of the 3 attacking midfield roles. dont u think the 3 goondus (namely bellamy, gerrard and garcia) are also very injury prone? saw from the past few games that kuyt likes to take the ball and run at defenders from deep. and if crouch is not available, i think kuyt can also prove to be an able stand-in for the lone striker upfront.

the 2 wins from the last 2 games have brought liverpool up to 10 points. not too bad, just 5 points behind chelski. a bit optimistic, i know cos there r very few games u would expect chelski to drop points. but hopefully, the team has already shaken off the infamous early season lethargy that seems to hit them every single season. now, to get the winning streak going and we should be able to gauge better by the turn of the year.

good thing from last season was that i didnt feel liverpool was playing very well at any point, but was able to win quite a number of games. this would mean that perhaps, there is still a lot of room for improvement this season. hopefully, reina would get some much needed encouragement from the last 2 cleansheets. if he gets another one from the galatasaray game, then i would say he responded well to rafa's veiled threats and would only bode well when liverpool travels to bolton over the weekend.:D cheers

my top 5

1. Dalglish (Only guy in liverpool's history to win the league as a player and manager.)

2. Gerrard (Fans are fickle. The current players always get remembered more for their contributions than those that retired 1-2 decades ago. Plus older fans are less likely to participate in an online voting contest.)

3. Barnes ( He won player of the year twice. Only Gerrard has won it thrice. Award is given out by fellow professionals. This guy is class.)

4. Rush (The ultimate fox in the box. He's still the record holder for number of goals scored. Plus he retired abt ten years ago only so people still remember him.)

5. Fowler (His love for liverpool is well documented. He has a book which was well-read so fans there must feel they 'know' him better than most past liverpool players. Great scorer. It will be great if he can notch double digit goals this year.)

Alan Hansen is now a TV pundit who has criticised Liverpool's play severely and frequently. It doesn't sit well with Liverpool fans who continue to support their club regardless of the result on the pitch. Maybe that's why he isn't top 10.

John "Digger" Barnes - A player i always enjoyed watching and idolised. Silky silks for a big man. His touches were awesome, even in his later years when he lacked the pace.

King Kenny Daglish - The undisputed king, exquisite plays to bring others in, straight decent bloke, humble man, tasty daughter.

Stevie Gerrad - The mordern midfielder. Every manager's dream, carries the team on his shoulders, packs a stinging shot, surging runs, bone crunching tackles and a never say die spirit. Shankly is looking down with pride...

Jan Molby/ Xabi Alonso - Different nationalities, almost the same genius with a football. Cultured elegant players with a range of passing so exquisite, they seem to look better than goals scored.
Vital to our beloved club's pass and move game. I'm hoping Alonso plays himself into Kop folklore.

Sidetrack, How many of you bros here think Momo Sissiko is almost the first these days to make the starting 11 teamsheet?
I think he will prove to be Rafa's best bargain signing ever. To think we nearly lost him to Everton!

CP, you described Ian Rush with the exact words I used! :D

KLKOOL and CP, I guess you must be in the age group of between 28-35? Looking at the list of players, they were in their prime in the 80s.

Although I was never a Liverpool suporter. They were winning the Div 1 titles year in and year out back in the 80's. They were the team that others supporters love to hate. I do remember teams like Aston Villa and Forest teams of that era. Peter White score the winner against SV Hamburg for Villa in the old European Cup final. Not to mentioned Ipswich Town who has Alan Brazil and Paul Mariner.

In the late 90's, Man Utd became the most "hated" team as they were very successful in the EPL. Now its Chelsea's turn. I guess it not the hatre but the jealous feeling of other teams' supporter. :)

Yeah, good to see fellow red chiongsters here.
My passion runs deep in the team, evident in my moods when the team wins or loses. A lot poorer now cos when punting, i never bet against LFC. :(

Wanna know how many bros here cried their eyes out when Gerrard lifted the Champions League Trophy? I know i did.... and everytime i watched the replay i still would.
Memories of me shouting abusive words when vlad smicer (now with Bordeaux)
was entering the game. I was screaming along the line of : What is that C*nt coming in for?? But it all turned to crying relief when he pulled the second goal back. Its only with LFC that you get to experience a range of emotions in a mere matter of seconds. I think LFC is truly bad for our heart...

Walk on,
Skye

but there are still videos to see them play wad..though it wasnt live, younger fans can still see recorded videos to see how they were

Videos? From where? Even Youtube has very few videos on John Barnes, plus Youtube is quite a recent invention. You got lobang or website for these videos? Share with us here lar. Will love to see Keegan play. Even Souness, the lousy manager, was once a good liverpool player. Will like to see if his playing skills are better than his managing skills.

Candy Jersey still available. They are making 80s replica Liverpool jerseys nowadays. So if you can't fit into the Candy jersey you used to wear as a teenager, you can buy the same jersey in a larger size now. The look and feel of the jersey is the same, only the waistline of the wearer differs. :p

Oh i visit Pennyblack too. Hmm, have we met before? The only problems with Pennyblack are that firstly, very few chiobus. Most ladies come with liverpool bf attached.

Secondly, to order a drink during match time is almost impossible. The waiters and waitresses always have problem squeezing through the crowd. The Kilkenny that I ordered halfway into the first half only comes in second half injury time. Plus got to keep reminding the waiter of my order everytime they walk past.

It's abso-fucking-lutely awesome to see so many Koppiets supporters here! Havent read the thread from the start, but my faves in no particular order:

Dalglish
Gerra
Alonso
Rush
Souness (you always need a hard man to clean up the shit and in my books, he's the best)
Hansen
Barnes
Keegan

I havent seen them play, but my seniors (in their 50s and 60s) talk about Ian St John, Roger Smith, Steve "Supersub" Heighway, John Toshack, Bill Shankly (duh!!), Jimmy Case...shit, we can go on forever!

Let's keep the thread going guys!

My Dream this year for LFC will be.......

1. Minimum Semi-Final for Champion League
2. Top 2 for EPL
3. Cup winner at least for either FA or League Cup.

LFC have won the first event of the year 2006 - The Charity Shield!!!

All the Way Liverpool!!! U will never walk alone!!!

Cheers!!!

IMHO, Your expectations is too high.

I don't think even the Liverpool's board would expect Rafa to be able to do the above.

It takes a lot of luck to win the CL baring in mind, there are no easy teams in the tournament. Every team is capable of beating one another on their day. Even with one of the best squads in Europe, RM and Chelsea didn't managed to reach even the Semi-Finals last seasons.

If they want to be EPL Champs or Runners-up, they must be more consistence in their games.

A likely achieveable target will be the League Cup or FA Cup.

Bro Cheri_Popper,

I said it is my dream not my target for Rafa.

Chelsea may have a very expensive team with good individual, but I do not agree that they one of the best squads in Europe. Look at Real Mandrid at recent few seasons as an example. Soccer is a team game. "Too many cook spoil the food."

As for Top 2 in EPL, LFC finished very close to Man United last season so I think my dream is quite realistic. It will be a bonus to me if they can win the EPL. If that come true, I will buy the 36 die-hard LFC fans in SBF a round of beer in a pub, I promise.

Cheers!!!!
