International publication Newsweek magazine reports the Philippines is the best place in Asia for women.
The country ranked 17th overall in Newsweek's "The Best and Worst Places for Women," which analyzed 165 countries.
The report looked at five areas that affect women's lives - treatment under the law, political power, workforce participation, access to education and access to health care.
The Philippines garnered an overall score of 86.3 out of 100, and is the only Asian country to be included in the Top 20.
China came in second place (23rd), followed by Mongolia (32nd).
In a statement, Malacañang said it is heartened by the results of the Newsweek report.

Just to let you know that views varies not only with the individual involved but also with the situation involved.
There had been very long discussions on tipping not only on this thread but many other threads (especially the BKK thread).
But from my personal experiences (and again this is just POV), For the most part, Tipping have very little effect on the overall performance.
Reason is simple. Tips are only given AFTER the deeds are done, so no way to know for sure until she is finished. So a promise of a tip for something that she didn't do yet is not cost effective. Again this is only from my years spent here (and elsewhere) and my POV.

Just to let you know that I also had consider this same thought going back 20years ago when I first set foot in the Philippines. But those thoughts started slipping away the longer you stay here and it is NOT because of the gals here. Instead, it is mostly because of 2 main reasons.
1)Compare to when I first started here, overall safety is worse and getting worse each year and crime has gone way ,way up and worst is that violent crime is the part thats up the most.
Years ago, shootings and murders were not as bad as today. Mostly there were more pickpockets and drive by motodriver thefts taking your bags and belongings. Today its shoot first with very little regards to life---a big contradiction as the PI is overall a very Catholic society .
2)If you had read some of my postings you will know that at one point years ago (when I was younger of course and more free spirited) I had actually lived in AC for a few months. Again, the gals and sex were good but AC became very boring and you will start craving more than just the day/nite sex. You start looking for things to do and I started to pick up playing pool but still not very good at it (in fact I still suck as I can't beat any of the gals I ever played with--lost count how many LDs I owed for losing), no beaches to speak of and I happen to love the water. Only true tourist sight is the near by volcano that could blow again at any time--Yes, it is still an "active" volcano.
I have alot more thoughts on this subject but for now these are the most important ones that comes to mind.
My thoughts today is to live somewhere else (close enough for a cheap tix to visit AC) but not living in th PI.

I share the same thoughts and fears. Violent crimes are getting more frequent because the guilty never seem to get caught.
I have thought of SETTLING here but now its better to stay somewhere near (SINGAPORE) and travel over occasionally.
