Thumbs up Chitchat UMNO Also Humbled By Landslide BE Victory! Jiuhu Voters Okay With Najib's Do

An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) retained its seats in Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar in by-elections held on Saturday (Jun 18).

Sungai Besar saw a three-cornered fight. BN garnered 16,800 votes from the electorate, Islamic party PAS gained 6,902 votes while 7,609 votes went to its offshoot Amanah. BN won with a 9,191-vote majority.

Four candidates ran in Kuala Kangsar. BN gained 12,653 votes, PAS took 5,684 votes, Amanah won 4,883 votes while Bebas garnered 54 votes, according to the election commission. BN won with a majority of 6,969 votes.

In a statement to the media issued early on Saturday morning, Prime Minister Najib Razak expressed his gratitude to voters for "putting their faith in Barisan Nasional again".

"We are especially humbled that we received such landslide results," he said.

Mr Najib added that as long as he remains Prime Minister, "the interests of the people will come first".

"We will deliver on our promises to them. My priority will continue to be the economic welfare, social wellbeing and security of all Malaysians," he said.

According to the election commission, Sungai Besar saw a voter turnout of 74 per cent, while Kuala Kangsar saw 71.4 per cent of voters heading to the polls.

The by-elections were held following the death of Members of Parliament from both areas in a helicopter crash in Sarawak on May 5.
