Re: All you need to know about "Marriage/Divorce" under the SG Law
does any one know how long will the process take once EVERY THING is settled ?
Settled as in, housing... child... maintenance etc. We have both signed it and lawyer has already submitted the papers etc. Lawyer draft the paper in October and within 2 weeks we signed every thing as we agreed on all the terms. according to lawyer, he says the process will take between 6-8 months. I've checked around with others and theirs seems MUCH faster. I have one friend who only took ONE month. |

Re: All you need to know about "Marriage/Divorce" under the SG Law
Hi Bro,
generally, it will take around 6 months. I'd went to my lawyers a couple months back, should the divorce petition is uncontested, no children custody invloved, it might be even faster... Cheers bro |

Re: All you need to know about "Marriage/Divorce" under the SG Law
Hi Big Sexy
Just a few quick questions. Divorce on the grounds of adultery , is it abosute proof. recently i got to know a gal who told me her exhusband divorce on the grounds of adultery. But she claimed she is innocent as the fotos do not show any compromising positions except she talking to few male "friends." If divorce on the above, does she has the right to maintenance ? Not sure i posing at the right forum but appreciate any reply. |

Re: All you need to know about "Marriage/Divorce" under the SG Law
hmm... not sure what u are saying....Already divorced or in the process???
Apply for maintenance???? Yes of course she has the right to do that.... and if she feels she has been wrongly accused... then simple..counter sue. if the husband cannot produce solid evidents...then good luck to him.. Quote:

Re: All you need to know about "Marriage/Divorce" under the SG Law
hi Big Sexy....
very good information, i kept reading and reading every thing. very informative. thanks. i have a question on maintenence. i have been told that if either party gets married again, the maintenence stops? Is this true ? another party told me that its not, and that maintenence only stops when the child turns 21.

Re: All you need to know about "Marriage/Divorce" under the SG Law
hi there..
a man will have to pay his wife maintenance until a. the death of either party or b. upon the remarriage of the wife in another word....if your wife re-marries, you can stop paying her maintenance, but if you re-marry, you must continue to pay her maintenance, however if you have a child under 21 then u are still entitled to the child maintainence. There are of course exceptions.. see here.. for more under child maintenance http://forum.sammyboy.com/showpost.p...8&postcount=86 Quote:

Hi big sexy,
Thank you for all your info. It is very helpful. One question, if my wife is a thai, marriage registered in thailand, stayed in singapore and thailand on and off, can she file for divorce in Singapore or thailand? And claim maintenance from me? Thank you in advance. Yours Sincerely, m |

Re: All you need to know about "Marriage/Divorce" under the SG Law
Hi Big Sexy,
Thank you for your reply, appreciated. I am wondering if you have heard in the news that a couple was fighting over some properties. In the end, the court awarded 40% to the husband. I think the couple are singaporeans and they registered the marriage in UK. So I was just curious how that could happen if the marriage was registered in other country. Just curious.... M |

Re: All you need to know about "Marriage/Divorce" under the SG Law
no i am not aware of that... but the properties are brought in sg right? so it should be settle in sg. Also the husband must have contributed significantly for the court to award him the 40%.

Yap, I think so too. Since their property is in singapore, they should divorce here as well.
Thank you for your time. Cheers, m |
