They use their own interpretation of the law to suck money out of you. Even my local Indonesia kakis reminded me to bring original copy of passport around. They know full well how bullshit the polisi can be.  That's why I always carry original copy of passport around when overseas.  100% success rate when cooperate fully with authorities.

I think the reason is not just to grease wallets, but political reasons. govt desperate to catch any Bule with drugs so they can blast on the Media, and blame drug problem on foreigners. Just like prostitution and other issues the root of the problem is within but they dun admit it.

The top screws the country while the rest screws the citizen and foreigners. As mentioned in the forum and to my friends.... we are lucky to be surrounded by these idiots. If we were surrounded by South Korea, Japan.... Singapore economic and as a country will be dead.
