Good one

I find posts about which superstar to buy or the fantasy XI the most pointless and boring...

Followed by posts complaining about our current crop of players...

For a change, I just want to say I am ecstatic about Steve Finnan, defensively and in his crossing. Now that's the quintessential, no-nonsense, get-it-done Pool player.

Yeah ... once upon a time, there were many lowkey LFC servants who just wanna get the job done while winning league titles after league titles.
From the past, I can remember Phil Neal, Alan Kennedy, Mark Lawrensen, Jimmy Case, Craig Johnston, Sammy Lee ... they usually hardly hit the headlines but their winners' medal is definitely aplenty.
From the current squad, Finnan is surely the only one such lowkey servant.

In every football forum all over the world, most number of theads are on players, simply because they are so many of them compared to managers or other members of staff, aren't you mentioning Finnan now ? Varieties & not similarities that make this world so beautiful, complaints about currents crop of players are expected as there are different levels of expectation from different group of supporters. The more knowledgeable supporters tend to expect more constructive views from others, that's common everywhere, but they do have to accept that not every single fellow supporter is that knowledgeable or well versed on football matters (some of them write super good FRs on chicks !),just like bro AXL said, the difference between a fan & fanatic. Likewise, whether they are MPs talking in parliament or retired ah peks talking in kopitiam, provided they are fellow Singaporeans,we got to accept they are part of us.
If we football fans don't talk about which superstar to buy, keeping track of development or performance of our players, how much left to talk about ?
Discuss, agree or don't agree,Gerrard,Momo,Mascherano and now Tevez, let's keep talking about them & keep spicing up things in here !
Cheers

I absolutely agree about Steve Finnan. He just work very hard, under the Radar. His crossing from the right has been getting pretty hot nowadays too.

Some other low key players we can't do without: Jamie Carragher, Sami Hyppia and Riise. Come to think of it, almost all the Pools players are actually quite low key, even Pennant and Bellamy. Gerrard is always on the news but at least not for the wrong reasons.

Cheers

Well said, Bro Cummon...You have voiced out our concerns and needs for a decent, non-manupulative discourse which we are entitled to one. Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

All over the news is that Rafa has lined up an impressive shopping list for the summer.... esp with many strikers like Eto and Villa linked with us...

I'm a bit sad that Fowler was not able to really get a run in the side, although admittedly he can't seem to last the distance... but his finishing is still the most lethal in my view... but about the topic of strikers... how abt Tevez... since his teammate has joined us, and his workrate is really tops...

Another concern that I have is the seemingly lack of English talent coming through the youth ranks... although Rafa seems to also recognise this and is trying to revamp the whole youth set-up....

Reading a post like this - which tries to lower the standard of discussion and make me sound exclusive - really worries me about the state of the fans of Pool today. Do the fans understand really understand what it means to be a Pool fan? and what Pool stands for and how it is different from other successful clubs?

There is a "money-can-buy" attitude here which I find troubling. Pool never was about money, money, money or even success, success, success.

Or the willingness to accept every delectable or controversial bit of news the British media feed us on a regular basis.

I have no problem with discussing our players - I participated in the recent discussion on Momo. There is a difference between constructive, knowledgeable discussion and dismissing someone cos they are Spanish, suggesting someone else be shipped out on loan to improve them etc. These things are just incredible.

The last question you asked me - what else can you discuss? I say, don't discuss for the sake of discussing. The answer is for everyone to find out individually.

No one is trying to manipulate anything. It depends on whether you have an open mind to think and learn. I have learnt a lot from some of the knowledgeable pple here. There are no right or wrong posts, only good or bad posts.

Give credit when credit is due, can't just take it away, better don't play fancy football.
i think you missed my point... if you noticed, i'm only suggesting getting a right winger... a problem that even benetiz concedes... i didn't even suggest a squad overhual, did i? think the defence is fine and i'm even happy with the current strike force... just rooting for a proper right winger thats all...

joaquin although being a spaniard, has a different build and style of play compared to, maybe garcia(since they play in allmost same position)... his main attributes being his strength when holding the ball, dribbling, determination and speed... attributes that would suit the EPL...

why garcia must go? notice how poorly he plays in the EPL? and how pool started winning once he got injured? to me, its not sheer coincidence... his injury is a blessing in disguise... he losses the ball too often with his silly tricks and rarely tracks back to tackle... also his build and stature is like a midget... grateful for those goals he scored on the way to the champs league victory but the main focus now should be on the EPL... give me back danny murphy any day! he'll kill those manures!!!

why pepe must go? i'd prefer a more british team... would love to see scott carson be our no. 1... don't think he'd do any worse than pepe... at least he didn't throw the ball into AJ's head and into his own net... honestly, tell me, pepe makes you feel comfortable or you always worry something might just happen?

why alonso must go? again, credits to what he's acheived at pool... top-notch world class player... but like i said, EPL seems to be too fast for him resulting in some hurried passes... he is also one of the main reason why gerrard is pushed out to the right flank... would rather gerrard be played in the central role, in front of mascherano or sissoko... liverpool seems to have more drive when gerrard is played in the middle...

to summarise, this is definitely no Champs Manager or fantasy football stuff... only suggesting getting 1 single player... else, i would be talking about torres, villa, eto'o, ronaldinho, messi, mertsecker, podolski and the likes...

i'd rather 40 million quid be spent on a single player capable on being a match winner than be spend on multiple average players... hope you can understand my point of view...

Even more fascinating to see suggestions of replacing almost the whole squad following this wave of creditable performances.
bro kingeros, i might not have been fortunate enough to have watched the teams that dominated in the 70's and 80's... i was only born in the 80's... i picked up soccer in 1990's and the only 2 teams i supported were singapore and liverpool...

i grew up watching people like abbas saad, lim tong hai, steven tan, david lee and fandi ahmad... rush, fowler, thomas, david wright, james were still playing for pool... had i been a supporter of success, would have followed the trend and jumped on the manure bandwagon... i remembered how cantona scored a volley from outside the box to condemn liverpool to a 1-0 defeat in the FA cup final... i cried the whole night...

i don't have no tattoos or birth mark across my chest... but cut me up and my blood runs red... maybe you think 20+++ punks like me must know nuts about soccer... but i've played soccer to a certain standard and hopefully know a bit about it...

if you find me offending, my sincerest apologies... but feel the need to speak up for this misconception that all young punks are airheads... will ups you!!!

hope pool beats reading tonight...

I didn't mean to lower the standard,as a Reds I tried my best to make this forum as lively as possible. So now it's the question of quantity & quality,we are now under SBF,an adult forum, how many samsters can talk football at the level you long for ?
There is a "money-can-buy" attitude here which I find troubling. Pool never was about money, money, money or even success, success, success.
Don't think it's getting serious, just because we are now under new American owners,we tend to get excited about the size of transfer kitty.

I'm not taking any side here. IMHO, it's not about age or tattoos. I began to support Pool only in the late 1980s, ironically after they lost the FA Cup final to Wimbledon. I have never seen the likes of Dalglish or Keegan in action or the glory days of Paisley or Shankley.

To me, being a Pool fan is not about thumping chests, crying out YNWA or laughing after our wins. It's about getting behind the team 100% when they are down, behind the players in the team, rather than thinking about who to ship out and replace with the biggest superstars around.

A Pool fan is different cos they are knowledgeable (and cos they have a wicked sense of humour).

If you are no airhead, that will be clear in no time and will be appreciated by me, whatever your age or tattoos
