Notice a girl whom did not speak properly at age 4-5. Immediately tell the parent to sent her daughter to KK's Child development at level 5 KK hospital.
Diagnose with mild autistic. With early intervention and speech therapy. Now this girl is in P5. Speak propery, and classified as fully discharge from KK.
I am not saying anyone child got anything, just saying early intervention sure will help.

Its normal for boys to start speaking a bit later, but it also depends on the environment and the way he is taught. I am father of 3 and let me relate my experiences. My twin gals were borned in Saigon and stayed there till 20 months old. They were taken care of by viet nannies and they speak TV daily. When they first came back to Singapore, my gals were still speaking a bit of TV. When they started childcare at 22 months old, they couldn't really speak till they were K1. With TV in their mind, my bx speaking to them in mandarin then and i speaking to them in English, they were basically confused. Don't care what experts say that kids can learn many languages when they were young, but my children are not linguists. By N2 to K1, they have totally forgotten about TV and they were only exposed to English and Mandarin daily. They started speaking and once they started, their language skills improved drastically. They also had a good teacher when they were schooling at Kinderland Pasir Ris then. (I was staying in Loyang then). Since then, my gals have been very strong in their English, they read lots of English story books and watch lots of You Tube videos in science and otheres etc. Since P1 till now P4, my gals have been scoring above 90 for English every year. But their Chinese is not too good then. Not many kids can be strong in both English and Chinese in school. My twin gal's chinese are always around 80s, sometimes lucky will be above 85, if not , between 80 to 84. My gals have been in the first class of the level and has been awarded Academic Excellence Award every year. In the same school and same level, there's one kid with a viet mother. Speaks TV all day since young. The kid's results is hopeless. English and Chinese just passed, only slightly over 50. Maths and science also hopeless. The kid is in the last class of the level. Our kids are not linguist, let them learn languages that are useful in their studies.
My boy, borned in Singapore, has never been exposed to Tieng Viet since young. He speaks only English and Mandarin. he started speaking at mid-N2 and now he speaks more English than Mandarin.
My policy is NO TIENG VIET for my kids when they are young. I explained to my wife and she understands and agrees too. I told my kids, if they want to learn tieng viet, they can learn when they are older. But they must show me that they can handle their school work well.
Be it whatever has been said about No need degree to be successful, but i am sure most understand and know that its very tough to be without degree in this economy. As parents, its our duty to provide good education for our children. If we as parents cannot see the right path, what will happen to our children. I do not plan for my kids to return to vn anytime in the future. I do not want them to rear pigs , cows or to rot in the village. Vietnam's economy will never be as powerful and huge as China. My kids are Singaporean chinese, they are not vietnamese.
Yeah fully agreed . thats why even though he still cant speak, i also want send him to expise him to english more... considering pcf pre - nursery. Just book child care for 2016 see how... if want him in sch learn more than cc otherwise pre - nursery (4hr) will do. Just why the subsidy focus on working mom..
Btw bro SV, ur son attending just K1 in kindergarten or in the child care type?
300 for both working; additional for income below 7500 depend on the income. Kinderland is abt 1k lor.. even pcf childcare also abt 700 before subsidy.
I always place my children in childcare. They need whole day to learn more things. I had bad experiences with Learning Vision and that's why i transferred my boy to PCF.
My son only can say 2 syllabus word while 2 other friends daughter already speak well..I see my son smarter than them but its just that losing them out on speaking.
both family (with vn bx) only expose their child in chinese while i expose my son to multi language (english chinese hokkien and tieng viet). Expert say its better for a child to be expose to more languages at young age but i think it make my son blur. At home, me and my father, my bro and his daughter talk to him in english, my mom talk to him in chinese and hokkien, my bx talk to him in chinese and TV.
my bx sometimes complain that dunno issit my son don't undersrand TV as many times my bx talk to him in TV, he don't listen.
My bro's daughter also born and raised in vn till age 3+. speaks alot tv and abit emglish (cannot pronouce properly). After coming back to sillypore to stay and attend nursery, she slowly forget her TV and can pronuoce proper english...many times when she talk on the phone with her grandma in vn, she ask my bx and me to translate. One time my mum told me that she can speak english with slang... I ask her to slang... OMG!!! Its filipino slang
btw basic subsidy for non - working mom only $150 not 300.
I don't think i will get any good subsidy... Also not looking at working mum subsidy for a period of time. I am not stopping at 1 as such my bx won't be working.
Got to try hard for another one by next year
