And yeah, the taxi/tuk-tuk mafia in Phuket is another thing that really bugs me. Out and out rip-off!! And by the way - that 650 fare from the airport is par for the course for these bandits - and will also usually involve a practically forced stop along the way at some rip off joints where they'd make you feel very uncomfortable unless you do buy something or another.

I wouldn't go as far as boycotting Phuket!!

To its credit, it IS a beautiful island with many and varied things to do; and that's the key to enjoying Phuket. If one goes to Phuket just to screw/monger, then yes, one is going to be sorely disappointed for really, things are more expensive vs Bangkok, pattaya etc and the quality is probably a small notch below.

But if one goes to Phuket to have a real holiday with all the trimmings, then few other places can match. I'm talking about golfing, sightseeing (best with your belle for the day), good dining, rafting, island hopping, shopping, elephant treks, shows (fantasea, the katoey shows, etc) or even just laying around the beach. And forcrissakes, I certainly am not talking about patong beach. And thus my oft repeated suggestion to always hire your own hire car whilst in Phuket.

Phuket is aGREAT place for a complete holiday INCLUDING some nights spent at Patong; but just SOME!!! Lol

It is the most expensive Thai destination. Green fees is about the most expensive in Thailand. I wouldn't bother to go to Phuket for golf at all.....

Yes indeed, Phuket IS expensive and IMHO it's a function of how popular the Pearl of Andaman really is as a total tourist destination. Very unfortunate, but that I guess just cannot be helped.

One thing though, Phuket is especially expensive during the high seaso, which coincides with the dry season starting from around now to the end of the Chinese New Year holidays. The rest of the year, prices - especially for accommodation, drops down drastically. Hotels routinely double or even triple their high season rates compared to the rest of the year.

And things aren't as hectic during the lower season - and it's really not all that wet - you just gotta get lucky! Lol

And compared to where most of us come from, Phuket remains a bargain any season! And for just about everything!!

If you don't mind.... I really suggest that you NOT get girls via the Internet or escort web sites in Phuket.

The offer of sex is so "in your face" at just about any bars there - of which there are plenty, especially in Patong, that it really is unnecessary for most to get girls via web escort services etc. I'd opine that such escort services would not offer you the best value or quality of girls.

You're in Phuket, just go out, look around to chose a girl you're really into and just ask her to follow you back to your hotel.

Just a suggestion.
