HONG KONG — The nine Singapore Armed Forces Terrex armoured vehicles seized in Hong Kong more than two months ago have been moved out of the city’s customs’ cargo examination compound on Thursday afternoon (Jan 26), in an apparent preparation for their return to the Republic.

A giant crane and several container trucks were seen driving into the compound near the River Trade Terminal off Lung Mun Road in the morning before one of the Terrex armoured troop carriers, covered with a grey sheet, was moved out shortly after lunchtime.

It is understood the military vehicles will be transported to a container terminal in Kwai Chung, where they will be loaded on a cargo vessel and then shipped back to Singapore.

Hong Kong’s customs chief said on Wednesday that the shipping company responsible could pick up the vehicles from the compound any time and send them to Singapore once it had obtained the right papers from the Trade and Industry Department.

The release of the troop carriers came after the Customs and Exercise Department completed an investigation and found that the Singapore government could not be held responsible as it was only the consignee of the vehicles.

But APL, the shipping company that was transporting the vehicles from Taiwan back to Singapore after a military exercise, could potentially face criminal prosecution.

Under Hong Kong’s Import and Export Ordinance, a licence is required for the import, export, re-export or transshipment of strategic commodities. The maximum penalty for failing to obtain a licence is an unlimited fine and seven years’ imprisonment.

This really shows that you have no brain at all . Out of nothing are you sure ? How can you protect a country when you can't even protect your own military hardware ? Looks like the Honourable hen's job is safe for the moment . So will the Hong Kong Customs take legal action against APL ?

Once again this forum needs my post to set the standards.

Phase one is China test spore by seizing vehicles. Spore failed cos they only whimper like ah qua asking can return me my vehicles pls.... Fucking useless

Phase two is solving the problem by whacking spores dog. Chinese got saying whack dog must also see who's the owner.

Now by whacking shipper, it help China n spore save face cos it's all shippers fault. Spore n China are blameless.

Now we will see how garbagement deal with phase two. I guarantee Is blame shippers n make themselves look good.

If spore do that, phase two fail also.

SINGAPORE — The nine Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) armoured Terrex vehicles seized by Hong Kong customs officials two months ago have left the city's port, and begun their week-long journey home.

"Our Terrexes left Hong Kong port this morning at 0415hrs. Next stop, home," Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen wrote on Facebook on Friday (Jan 27) morning.

Hong Kong media reports said there was heavy security as the armoured vehicles were moved out of a customs’ cargo examination compound at about midnight on Friday. Customs officers armed with rifles stood guard and police motorcycles escorted the convoy as it travelled to a container terminal at the port, the South China Morning Post and Oriental Daily reported.

The vehicles will be shipped back by APL, the commercial carrier that was supposed to ship the vehicles to Singapore in November last year from Taiwan, following a military training exercise. But customs officials in Hong Kong seized the shipment on November 23 while it was in transit in the city’s port.

In comments to the media earlier this week, Dr Ng said it would take APL about a week to bring the vehicles back to Singapore, and that they will be shipped back to the Republic directly “without any intermediate stops”.
