Just came in and saw this. They're all the same. When I take taxis with them, some are willing to go with flat rate when they can tell the driver to go by meter. Got frustrated and started telling them, "If they go by the meter, we got more money to spend on ourselves".

That took care of everything.

In any case, personally I would only term someone as a cheap charlie if he expects more services without due compensation. For instance in a group of friends drinking, if he doesn't pitch in for a round or two, typically he is living off his friends and that is not nice. It does not have to be divided equally, just that he contributes towards the general pot and he should be ok. The amount he contributes is immaterial as each person is not equal. It is more about the thought that counts. No calculators needed here!

So... that being said, I really think there is no cheap charlies around in this thread. A lot of smart cheongsters. People who are out to have fun within their means. People who do not like a fast one being pulled on them and are willing to stand up to it. People who are willing to pay when they feel like it, not because they are obliged.

Cheap charlie is what the people that I don entertain will call ma and I hope more of the beggars know I am a cheap charlie and get off my back and don pick pocket me. Yes, money is needed to get good and bad experiences and I might as well share the lessons I learnt with others here.

Happened to me several times.

My gf will straight away sit in the trike without fixing the fare before hand.

I got ripped off a couple of times. Despite telling her OFF she repeated her behaviour a couple more times when i forced her to pay.

I told her "my money to you is nothing". Your one peso is very big is it?

For me i dun really care what the girls impression is of me....

Even when i visit the province with my GF, i remembered she went to a supermarket and bought a helluva lot stuff.

She bought 2 trolley full of stuff including meat, oil, biscuits, soaps, powders, rice etc

i reminded her a couple of times that she will have to pay for sponsoring the provisions for her family and that i am not part of the deal.

She paid up.

Generally if you do reasonable research you will get an idea of what is the approximate fair Fare.

Once you are aware of that, tell the girl that that is the fair.

Anything else she take public transport/jeepney or walk.

They fall in line.

hence its really important you get girls who want you more than you want them.

They will do everything for you.
