Rafa DID sign a replacement for Alonso. He's Aquilani and he's recovering from an ankle injury now. Started jogging already. Maybe Aquilani is really as good as Rafa says he is, that's why we are willing to sign him and wait for him to recover. Maybe Rafa thought that Lucas can make do till Aquilani recovers. Alonso's a big miss. I didn't realise how important he is defensively to us till he's gone. Most of us just look at his passing ability to justify why he's a first 11 team member.

I won't be so positive bro. So what if we were doing fine before Mascher lost the ball in midfield? We never looked like coming back from the deficit. We only have to compare with our game at OT last season or this season when (sad to say) Scum overcame Arse. It's games and comebacks like these that define champions and we came away with our tail in between our legs.

I mean, looking at the players' comments in the games this season, you realise they have no idea what's happening and why their form has dipped. They keep saying next game next game but they are baffled. Hope Rafa finds a solution soon.

DAILY TELEGRAPH

George Gillett has claimed that Rafael Benitez is to blame for Liverpool's failings on the pitch - rather than the owners - after stating that the club is in "extraordinarily'' good financial shape compared with Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United. Gillet said: "We have invested more money than our competitors, in keeping with the history of the club, which means it should be getting better. Now if it's not getting better, it's not Gillett and Hicks, it's the manager."
"In the last 18 months, we have invested £128m on top of what has come in. That means it should be getting better.
"There was plenty of money, so if you have any complaints, take a look at the ins and outs."
Gillett also added that the £30million fee recouped from Xabi Alonso's move to Real Madrid "went straight back" into the club's transfer budget, which was already set at "£22-23m as part of our budgets".

do they have a different way of doing their maths in america...?!!

Finger crossed. But its a fact he is seldom wrong on big money spendings. (seldom = not always)

Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

Since rafa came in 2004, which signing made by him still stayed on ? & which has since moved on ?
Beside reina, agger, kuyt, torres, Dossena...the rest did not really make it successful with the reds which was signed by him - to named a few : Crouch, Sissoko, Zenden, Josemi, Núñez, Bellamy, Pennant, González, Luis García, Cissé etc. (Some actually is fans favourite, however Rafa did not nuture them to what they are suppose to be)

He is not really good in spotting talented players i should say if compare with Wenger or Fergie.

Fingers cross for Aquilani, hope he can produce what Rafa expected of him - to be honest, i have never seen him played before - the amt of money spend on an injured player just to get him before the trf window closes shows he "just" might have some qualities.

I hope so..Title dreams in the balance, another loss will means we have to concetrate on the CL more than the EPL.

That's not fair at all. Before Torres and the Yanks, Rafa had to work with David Moores' budget. So he tried to compensate by building a deep squad with good but not outstanding players, e.g. Crouch, Bellas and Kuyt.

In the last 2 seasons, he has gone for quality than quantity: Aquilani, Keano and Glen Johnson. I wish we have money for both but that's the reality Rafa has to work with.

And before you start praising Fergie, most of us here can name the duds he signed.

agree wif bro rahl... due to budget constraint, rafa was forced to sign "10mil pounds players" to build up his squad while keeping up with man u, cheski & arsenal... while trying to get rid of those deadwoods left over...
and when these players no longer able to bring us to another level, he shipped them out and bring in better batch.... till he was able to attract and buy "20 mil pounds players" like torres, macherano, keane, johnson, aquallani..
rafa had to work step by step, unlike cheski and man city, where they can spends 100 mil a summer to buy players..
look at the bench on sunday, u'll understand tat rafa's job is not easy... cheski got zhirkov, malouda, joe cole on the bench, while the best we can offer is benayoun... and their midfield made up of 4 world class player, deco (thou slightly over the hill), ballack, lampard n essien (wat a player!!! he's a gozilla compare to our monster).. while we are having lucas and reira, who r not bad players, but simply not in thesame class as ballack or deco, or even joe cole..

To be fair to Benitez...... before anyone points he finger at him you have to understand the way the transfer system works here at Anfield....

Transfers are board decisions..... Benitez tells Rick Parry the type of players he needs and RP and his team of scouts will shortlist the players for the board to decide....... although Benitez is also on the board....... he is outnumbered 4 to 1 ..... so even if he dun want the player he could be out voted by the others.... eg Robbie Keane

Btw, those 2 Yankee Doodles calculations is macam mangkali...... KNN !!!

INSIDER NEWS FROM ANFIELD !!

Villareal has approached Rafa Benitez to rescue their season. The Spanish 1st Division side have not won any of their games and currently lies 2nd from bottom in the Primera La Liga........

After the latest spat with the Yankees....... Benitez may very well take up the offer

I don't tink he'll want to go to a club fighting for survival. He'll rather be fighting for championship. Maybe he'll go to RM next year if RM dun win enough trophies this year.

It's wrong to say Rafa didn't nuture players. Carra and Gerrard had improve tremendously under Rafa stewardship, even our king poacher Torres has claimed that Rafa has improved his game. I remember not much peolple heard of Alonso before he came to Anfield and eventually got sold for 30mil. Isn't he improved as well? How about Mascherano? He couldn't even get a game at West Ham.

(Crouch, Sissoko, Zenden, Josemi, Núñez, Bellamy, Pennant, González, Luis García, Cissé)
With the exception of Bellamy, which of these players have scale higher height after they left Anfield? None of them. Again it vindicate Rafa decisions.
