Honestly, if you have been there, you will know the answer ..

If you haven't been there - to quote from another forum where one guys asked which is better - Pattaya or AC - the answer was "PLEASE STICK TO PATTAYA AND DON'T SPOIL AC"

No offense bro - but - if you haven't been to AC it is hard to tell you ..

While AC is not as hot like Thailand, it has it's sweet spots - maybe some of the other can expand..

AC is very worth visiting but please don spoil it. The "NO" that you see are only the decorations on the cake. The proof is in the cake itself.
Just read up thoroughly the advise and experiences posted here and go have a whale of a time. I know you feel sorry for the people you meet but please don throw money cos you feel its cheap.

Wow, AC really changed after 13 years, I finally had an opportunity to visit AC! Currently, there are more traffic, beggars, street vendors, hoodlums, girls and bars!

In my opinion, it's not dangerous to walk around during day or night, just have lots of confidence. I just went to money exchange and there were 4 average sized Filipino men outside and when I was walking towards them I just flexed my chest and shoulder and did my infameous professional wrestle shuffle and walked straight to money exhange and nothing happened. Therefore, AC is fairly safe, I didn't had to bring my pistol out and use it!

Whoa whoa. Hold your horses. Never ever feel confident that all is well and let your guards down. That's my biggest mistake. Secondly, respect the locals and leave them be. Don go flexing your muscles and challenging them. No use, they use a different set of rules in any game. They got nothing to lose. Enjoy yourself with the girls but stay away from the men. Especially those that try remembering when they last saw you.hahaha.

I would have skipped that money changer and gone to a different one if there was some guys loitering around ..

And muscle flexing doesn't work, when the natives have 'superior weapons of choice' such as guns/throw knifes ..

And - you are not sure, ask the reception of the hotel - they should have a mini-guide on do's and don'ts in AC for foreigners, such as avoid challenging locals, avoid getting into trikes when a guy offer super young girl, avoid involving in cock fights .. etc. etc.

Yes, I was there yesterday and missed the games due to time constraint. But that bar was excellent due to number of attractive girls and friendly staff.

I didn't want to turn around and go to another money exchange because I didn't want to show that I was afraid. When I was walking towards the exchange they're staring at me and I just took a glance and passed them to the exchange. Nothing happened and after I got money I just walked toward the hotel and they didn't even looked at me!

Overall impression is that AC is fairly safe as long as you hang out in the tourist area and doesn't venture to out skirts of the city! AC has many beggars and vendors that harass the tourists but just tell them no and walk away! You'll see lots of Filipino men loitering the streets but in my opinion they're not dangerous!

well, not to dispute you - but overall, I don't even bother to stare them back, or show that you stand your ground

After all, we are in their territory, and same goes when I visit other countries.

I rather act uninterested and approach the money changer, if many guys crowding around, ask a stupid question like "You change South African Rand ?" and knowing the obvious answer, will loudly tell myself that I am out of money and can't change money, or if I am with an 'escort' say that to my escort - so the stalkers get the message

I believe in never winning a war in foreign turf ..

And for beggers, I dont' even bother to tell them NO, I act like I don't know English .. and if somebody call me like "hey brother" - I turn and stare like a deer caught in headlight and stammer out "little english" and cut the conversation and move out ...

Same sentiment as u, as not 2 act 'hero' n don't ever, ever 'challenge' them when in other foreign country..
I have got a frd who like 2 act like a hero n ended up at hospital with a big big scar at his chest n have to go with 15 stiches for just a small money like S$100
