What happens to FLs that are caught?

Hi All,

I am starting this post the understand what happens to foreign FLs after they are caught working in Singapore.

My initial thought was they would immediately be sent back to their country, but after meeting this FL I met a few weeks ago on Wechat I was told that they could be detained in Singapore for up to three years which sounds ridiculous!

From my recent outing with her, she told me she is basically going to the ICA and Police Station every week to renew her visa.

The police aren't providing adequate information on how long she will be detained in Singapore for and she is struggling to survive here given how expensive the cost of living is in Singapore.

Just wanted to check if any bros have any useful information that I can relay to her? She is worried that she will be here for more than a year and misses her daughter.

I see that you have already gotten some good responses in a separate thread.

The only thing I want to add is that the police is not in the business of keeping your FL friend informed. She is a suspect in a police case and not a customer of the SPF who can demand some kind of service standard in terms of timelines. This is one of those things that FLs implicitly accept as risks when coming to Singapore. Sure she can complain but she should know that her circumstances do not allow for much bargaining power.

She is probably just one of those chosen to "assist in investigations" and thus kept here on "white card" which is essentially an indefinite Social Visit Pass. She will be here until police either closes the case or they determine that they no longer need her assistance. I know personally a few FLs over the years who were in this situation - one stayed here nearly two years (20 months) while the rest typically stayed anywhere from a few weeks to a year.

In the majority of all cases the FLs carry on freelancing to support themselves while they are here (after all, what choice do they have) but they typically find it difficult to find places to rent so they move around. One lucky FL (an ang pai from the famous 201A SBR) amassed more than $200K over two years of work so when she was on white card for 10+ months she did not really have to work, and she explained her cash balance in the bank account as casino winnings.

Tell your friend to be mentally prepared, and hopefully her case gets closed soon.

99% of FL will be sent back immediately. 1% will stay back willingly or unwillingly.

Willingly case, is FL themself go lodge complain against boss in return for white card so they can carry on working here for a indefinite time.

Unwilling case, is police has some evidence, and require FL to assist in investigation. But they still work as FL to supplement their income.

Its a win win situation to get a white card. To the extend, many are exploiting this loophole

I heard that some hookers even negotiate with the police officers in order to be granted the "white card" in exchange for information, e.g. backstab the OKTs.

Get caught go back lor. Please understand, prositution in spore is LEGAL. They only caught for illegal working.
