Thumbs up Singaporeans should be allowed to get scholarships for PRCs

An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:

and indians offered by the Singapore govt.

Today if you walk to a university campus in Singapore, you find hundreds of foreigners
studying in our university. These foreigners are on scholarships given to them by the
govt using taxpayer's money. The scholarship bond is for them to work 3 yrs in a Singapore company.

Singaporeans are not allowed to apply for these scholarship with a 3-yr work for singapore company
terms. Such a term helps Singapore corporations given a graduate today has lots options to work overseas. This obligation will not be different when applied to Singaporean graduate of a local university.

Why aren't these scholarships also offered to Singaporeans instead of just foreigners? There are many children of poor families who make it to university...while they can get bursary, such a scholarship is far better for such students financially.

Why is the discrimination against Singaporeans when it comes to such scholarships? Why is taxpayers money used to aid foreigners and not Singaporeans? Many singaporeans will be disadvantaged by such a scheme.

These scholarship schemes are very different from those run by the Japanese or French govt for foreigners for cultural exchange - most foreign govt have scholarship for foreigners but on a very small scale, others set very high criteria attracting now more than 1-2 best students from Singapore.

I would like to know how rational Singaporeans are expected to support such a scheme that
discriminate against Singaporeans and disadvantage them? What are the reasons to support this when our
local companies already have access to foreign graduates through FT imports?
