It's Official: Xiaomi is coming to singapore
An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:
Hugo Barra, former Google VP in charge of Android, has just made it official on his Google+ page: Xiaomi is coming to Singapore, with "details coming soon..." Barra originally hinted in early December that Singapore would be the company's next launch country after China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Xiaomi (which translates to "small rice") is a Chinese company founded in 2010, and is known for selling high-powered Android smartphones at low cost. For example, its latest flagship, the Mi3, packs either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 or an NVIDIA Tegra 4 chip, a 13MP Sony camera and 2GB of RAM, the 16GB version sells for 1999 Chinese yuan (approx. S$412). Xiaomi's CEO Lei Jun announced earlier that Xiaomi sold 18.7 million smartphones in 2013, up 160 percent from a year earlier. Revenue for the year totaled 31.6 billion yuan (approx. US$5.2 billion), up 150 percent from the previous year. Lei Jun also announced that he plans to go more than double and aims to ship 40 million smartphones in 2014. Xiaomi Singapore's Facebook page is now live, and we'll be following this story as it develops. A picture shared on Xiaomi's Facebook page, with a play on the Chinese name for Singapore - translated it means "starting from the new", but it could also mean "starting from Singapore".
